FLUXX Brings Sports Betting to AOL’s UK Portal

  • Extensive range of sports and horse betting products to launch in August 2007

  • AOL, one of the largest internet and web services companies in the UK, has agreed to an exclusive partnership with FLUXX, one of Europe’s leading specialists in the lucrative gaming market. The two companies will join forces to market Internet sports betting in the UK.

Beginning in August, AOL UK customers will be able to place bets on international horse races and other sporting events using the betting platform of JAXX UK Ltd, the British subsidiary of FLUXX. JAXX UK’s London-based team will be responsible for setting the odds and providing the editorial content for the betting platform. AOL and JAXX UK plan to develop their partnership and consider offering other services in the future.

"As part of our mission to make the AOL UK portal the premier online destination for web users and advertisers alike, we are looking at a range of partnerships and initiatives to drive our business forward in Europe”, said Michael Steckler, Vice President Interactive Marketing, AOL Europe. "Linking up with FLUXX fits that strategy perfectly. Their wealth of ideas and experience in the betting business will bring additional energy and diversity to our offering both here in the UK and across other European countries.”

According to Rainer Jacken, Management Board spokesman of FLUXX AG, "The British market is one of the largest and most attractive in the world, with a betting volume of around EUR 70 billion. Yet the online market is still notably underdeveloped. Together with AOL, we have now created a highly competitive service that will help us to tap into this growth.”

The collaboration between AOL and JAXX in the UK is modelled on an existing partnership in Germany. There the AOL lottery service has been operated by JAXX since 2003 and is one of AOL Germany’s most successful e-commerce services. Following today’s announcement, FLUXX and AOL are planning to extend their partnership to other European countries. Fluxx’s services on the AOL UK portal will not be available to US customers.
